Living room/dining room update.
No major changes. Just the addition of a few photos and prints and a few miscellaneous accessories and the new bar where the boyfriend mixes up his Manhattans and I pour the wine. I’m crazy excited for the holiday season because I plan to make the mantle a thing winter dreams are made of. Or something.
But basically I just want to be snuggled up on that couch with the pugs and the wine and a fire in the fireplace and Parenthood on the TV ALL THE TIME.
First dinner party in the new casa.
Project of the day: photo collage wall.
Initially I planned to be super organized a la Young House Love. But let’s be honest - I’m not that patient. So I hung up the mirror first and then just started hanging the other frames until everything looked reasonably balanced. Amazingly, there were very few instances where I had to move something around.
The bulk of the time was spent ordering prints (hello Etsy) and finding images via Creative Commons that I could download and print from Shutterfly. Everything on the wall has meaning, whether it’s a photo or a print. And I like that I can keep adding to it as we (in the wise words of Tim Riggins) make memories.
After five long days, lots of heavy lifting, organizing, cleaning, stress, exhaustion and general chaos after weeks of living in disarray, we officially settled into our new home.
We’re pretty much in love with it. Obsessed even.
We still need to hang artwork, add a few more pieces of furniture and finish fixing up the office and two downstairs bedrooms, but… it’s perfect.
And even after hauling things up and down stairs for several days and building furniture, the boyfriend spent two days ripping out dead sod, prepping the soil and planting new sod in the backyard (plus fixing a bazillion things around the house and putting up with me when I reached code red “I’m so hungry that I’ve turned into a polar bear” status).
I’m so excited that it’s over and now we can relax, drink wine in front of that fireplace and enjoy the little home we’ve made.

Currently.
The (very wrinkled) couch has arrived.
Guess who has a date with the steamer later?
*happy sigh*
More new house spam to come later this evening…
Moving (Pt. 1)
- Last night was dedicated to picking up the keys, wandering around the house and giggling like little kids because we’re so enamored with the place.
- It was also dedicated to moving a king sized bed up a narrow stairwell. This was comedy gold slash the most exhausting 30 minutes of my life.
- Moving things while wearing dress shoes (him) and beaded sandals (me) was stupid. Very stupid. The fact that I still have 10 toes is somewhat miraculous.
- Our new next door neighbors’ son (age 5?) was wearing a Zorro costume when we met. I like this kid already.
- We brought over “moving provisions” aka four beers and two bottles of water. The water is still sitting in the fridge.
- Several people asked where we got the chairs. They’re Dwell Studio for Target and come in other super cute fabrics too.
- The movers come tomorrow to move everything out of my place, but we’re going to sleep at the new house with the puggies tonight.
- Unexpected discovery: no door on the master bathroom. Awkward. And hilarious. But mostly awkward.
O hai new house.
The latest addition to the new casa.
Pretty much in love.
10 days.
Fancy House.
Praise Jeebus.
Gonna go ahead and predict that I will drink many glasses of wine in front of that fireplace in the coming months.
Let’s just hope I can make it through the next week without losing my mind.
